One of William Clifford arguments he was making was, people often stick to their beliefs without evidence more like a gut feeling about the way things work. His example he used about the shipowner fell under the fallacies of presumption. The shipowner assumed the ship was fine and was going to make the journey which it didn’t and sank.
Intro to Arguments
1. If I work on jumping I will be able to jump higher each time, therefore someday I will jump as high as a skyscraper.
2. A strong healthy diet can be achieved through both plant and meat based.
3. I took a bite from a bad apple so all apples are bad.
4. I don’t like to be rush so I leave the house early so I don’t feel rush on my way to school.
Fallacies
1) Begging The Question
I drink energy drinks and that makes my heat beat go faster so one day after drinking energy drinks I will have a heart attack.
2) Ad Hominem
Joe Rogan has a podcast and has many guest from different backgrounds and discuss and debate many topics but some groups of people do not take him serious because he’s a comedian and a commentator for the UFC.
3) Equivocation
The drill instructor had once said that a bag of rocks have more brain cells combine than myself.
4)Slippery Slope
I had told my grandma about the tattoos I have and she said that tattoos are going to steer me away from god and will not be able to find a good job.
5)Straw Man
My friend likes cats more than dogs. I say that I would never be disloyal I am a dog person forever.
6)Tu Quoque
My sister says we shouldn’t eat animal products yet for breakfast she eats eggs and drinks milk.
7)Non-Sequitur
If I like to gamble while playing cards, then I am willing to gamble on other things in life.
8) False Dichotomy
If you don’t buy girl scout cookies outside the store then you must hate humanity.
9)Argument From Ignorance
I never read about Dinosaurs in the bible so were there any at all.
10) Red Herring
Drilling in the ocean for oil is risky for the environment yet corporations persuade people that they are going to make a lot of money by drilling.
11) Bad Seed
Why should we listen to Tia Clara when it comes to family matters, she’s the one that sold some of our families heirlooms.
12) Guilt by Association
My friend farted on the school bus to our field trip. I sat next to him. Now everybody thinks I’m a no good swamp butt because of his actions.
Injustice
I served in the Marine Corps for 4 years and deployed twice during my enlistment. Both deployments I spent time training in South Korea. During my second time I was in a group that was granted an overnight stay in Seoul (the capital of South Korea; an amazing city I wish to visit again sometime in my lifetime). We were in line for an exclusive popular club, I forgot the name but it was highly ranked worldwide and the damnest thing had happened to me. The bouncers didn’t let me inside the club because they said I looked Arab/Muslim (I’m Mexican although I can’t speak Spanish so that doesn’t help my case). Because I looked like a certain race or someone who would practice a certain type of religion, they wouldn’t let me inside. Behind me were a group of 3 people from England, 2 white girls and 1 Muslim (I think he was Pakistani?) They would let the guy inside the club because of his race and religion. My friends were allowed and they were Mexican like me. Even if I was Arab or practice Islam why would it matter?
An injustice of favoritism can be seen when people treat others unreasonably because of their appearance/gender.
Injustice is when unreasonable point of view causes judgement of appearance and gender cause inequality and favoritism among different people.
